Difference between MP4 and MPEG format

MP4 is a standard developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG); commonly used for sharing video files on the Internet.The MPEG-4 video is compressed with MPEG-4 video encoding. Audio is compressed using AAC compression.

MPEG is a working group of experts that was formed by ISO and IEC to set standards for audio and video compression and transmission.

1. MPEG1/4 are different video encoding decoding formats.
2. MPG is a different codec and container formats
3. MP4 is a container format not a codec
4. Other codec used in .mp4 container is "mpeg-4 part 10" standard called AVC or h.264
