How to Distinguish iPhone 4S from iPhone 4

Among all iPhone models, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S are difficult to distinguish, they have identical body and appearance. Sometimes you may need to know exactly what model your iPhone is, this article will share you some tips to tell the differences between iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

Part 1. Distinguish iPhone 4S from iPhone 4

1. Appearance differences

Although iPhoen 4S and 4 are almost identical in appearance, there are slight difference out there. Below are two differences between the two models.
The easiest way to tell difference between iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 is to check the right side of the iPhone. Below are the images which will show you the difference between iPhone 4S and iPhone 4’s right side.

As shown in the picture below, iPhone 4S does not have a black bar next to the ear jack, but iPhone 4 does; there is a black bar over mute button in iPhone 4S, but no black bar in iPhone 4.

2. Using Siri

Siri is an intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator that can answer questions, make recommendations, and perform actions like sending messages, making calls, setting reminders. It now only exist on iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, if your iPhone has Siri, it is not iPhone 4. Check out if you have Siri on your iPhone first to tell whether it is iPhone 4.

3. Identification difference

One easily way to externally identify the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 models, and all other iPhone models, is by the model number printed in small type on the back of the phone.
The model number of the GSM-equipped iPhone 4 is A1332, the model number on the back of the CDMA-equipped iPhone 4 is A1349, but the model number printed on the back of the iPhone 4S is A1387. (Models in China are not included).

4. Hardware differences

iPhone 4S' rear camera has much better specs -- capable of shooting 8 megapixel stills and 1080p 30 FPS video. The iPhone 4 models, however, are capable of shooting 5 megapixel still photos and 720p 30 FPS video.

Part 2: How to Distinguish iPhone (GSM) from iPhone (CDMA)

In the external differences, this difference is relatively obvious. iPhone 4 (GSM) has an access panel on the right side (and an enclosed Micro SIM card) and the iPhone 4(CDMA) does not have an access panel or a SIM card. The image below will show you the differences.
