According to Wikipedia, Nikon was founded on 25th July, 1917 and it's a Japanese multinational corporation that is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. In its early time, it was called Nippon Kogaku Kogyo Kabusikigaisha, and later it's renamed as Nikon Corporation after its cameras in 1988.

We know best of Nikon cameras. And actually, besides cameras, it also produces camera lenses, binocular, microscopes, ophthalmic lenses, measurement instruments, and the steppers used in the photolithography steps of semiconductor fabrication.

Among the cameras, Nikon mainly produces the following stuffs:
√ Nikkor imaging lenses (for F-mount cameras, large format photography, photographic enlargers, and other apps);
√ Nikon F-series of 35mm film SLR cameras;
√ Nikon D-series of digital SLR cameras;
√ Coolpix series of compact digital cameras;
√ Nikonos series of underwater film cameras.

Now, the major competitors of Nikon are Canon, Sony, Pentax, and Olympus.

About Nikon Camcorders:

Well, as to Nikon camcorders, all I can find is the words from a comment from nikonrumors.com. It is said that Nikon has laready launched camcorders 15 years ago: the Nikon VN-200 , VN-300 , VN-310 , VN-330 , VN-340, VN-350, VN-360 VN-400 ... VN-9500; among them, only the name was Nikon, all were manufactured by SONY; Nikon stops before the video became digital.

Moreover, from the review glossary of CNET, there are Digital Cameras, Compact Digital Cameras, and Digital SLRs only for Nikon brand. Also, in Wikipedia for Nikon, there are cameras of SLR, Compact cameras, movie cameras, and Digital cameras of Digital compact cameras, Mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras, and Digital single lens reflex cameras.

All in all, so far there's no Nikon camcorder. But we can tell nothing in the future.
